On the occasion of the International Day of Mental Health, OPZ Geel, OPZC Rekem, Thomas More Kempen and Hogeschool PXL are organising this study day.

Program: 9u: Reception with coffee 9h30 - 9h40: Welcome 9:40 - 10:30: Social media and the use of internet in social work - Jo Van Hecke

Content: Which existing internet sites are useful. How should you use them and what should you pay attention to. Jo Van Hecke also pays a lot of attention to media wisdom, including privacy and aspects that are indispensable if you want to take steps with clients online.

Jo Van Hecke worked several years as a context supervisor in youth care and noticed more and more the change in communication between young people. As pilot coordinator, he participated in the European Incluso project, which looked into the usability of social media in youth care. From there he developed several methods to work with young people and their families. Jo Van Hecke gives guest lectures at colleges and universities in the use of social media in social work. He published his experiences in working with online care in several professional journals. Together with Davy Nijs, he published a book on this subject, 'Internet as a methodology in youth care' Garant 2012. He firmly believes that these methods strongly contribute to or are beneficial for working with young people in youth care. 'Creative Thinking out of the box' is his motto.

Content: These possibilities are illustrated by means of current projects such as: The Drugline, Alcohol Help, Cannabis Help, Drug Help and mobile apps. Herwig Claeys is a psychologist and web designer. He is responsible for online projects at CAD-Limburg and developer at online-hulpverlening.be

Dr. Paul Koeck is chief medical officer and developer of '15Minutes4Me.com/en', in addition to his practice as a solution-focused physician-psychotherapist and stress counselor in Antwerp.

11:30 - 12:00: Online counselling: a gadget for counsellors or a solution to some of the challenges of our healthcare system? - Debora Vansteenweghen Content: How effective and efficient is this form of assistance and how can this way of working be an addition to the classic assistance offer? 15:45 - 16:20: How do we deal with the patient as a user of social media? - Nico De Fauw

Content: Social media have become an integral part of our society. The number of Facebook users, Twitter adepts, LinkedIn users and You Tube fans, to name but the most important, is gigantic. In Flanders, too, these social media are integrated into everyday life....And since the Flemish people are also concerned about their health, they will use these social media to look up information about their own symptoms, complaints, illnesses, etc. More than that, he will also share his experiences with healthcare providers such as doctors and hospitals through his "friends", "followers" and "connections". How do we deal with this as healthcare professionals and how can we ourselves use social media in a positive way in terms of treatment and guidance, therapy, patient participation, quality assurance, ... Which social media do we best use for which target group and purposes? In this presentation, we will not only consider the possibilities, but also the possible risks and disadvantages.
